Hauling Out at Nanny Cay
01/06/2012

Zenaida in SlingToday I sailed S/V Zenaida to Nanny Cay, Tortola to haul her out for the summer months. This will be the first summer that Zenaida hasn't made the passage north since I baught her in 2007. Nanny Cay is one of the better yacht yards in the Virgin Islands and one of the only ones capable of hauling Zenaida.

To prep Zenaida for the summer on the hard I removed all the sails to reduce the windage on the boat and stored them down below. I also dropped the boom onto the deck and moved all the halyards away from the mast so they wouldn't clang when the wind blows.Zenaida on the HardI ran the dinghy engines in fresh water to get all the salt water out and stowed them below decks as well. The dinghy went upside down on the fordeck and got tied down in case a hurrican does blow through. The chart plotter as well as all easy to remove items from the cockpit and deck I removed and stowed inside the boat. Nanny Cay is a vary safe yard and I don't expect theft to be an issue but none-the-less it is only prudent to remove the temptation.

Zenaida will stay here until the middle of October when I come back to launch her and get her ready for the winter season which starts on the first of November.

Full Moon Party - Trellis Bay
06/05/2012

Elise and IToday Elise, my first mate, and I took a needed vacation and after day of diving took SV Zenaida to Trellis Bay on Beef Island for the full moon party. Trellis Bay is the family full moon party as opposed to the drunkin' party at the Bamaba Shack on Tortola. After dinner on the boat we went ashore for the party on the beach. This being our first time we didn't know quite what to expect.Man on Fire

The evening started with the lighting on fire of some metal art sculptures. There were three metal sculptures filled with wood and other flamamble items and after the sunset they lit them on fire. The light from the fires lit up the beach and provided a great ambiance for the festivities. There was a DJ on the beach playing an assortment of Calypso and Soca tunes. Later in the evening people on very tall stilts came down to the beach and danced with the rest of us in the crowd. All in all it was an awesome evening of dancing, rum, and fire.
